Shanghai's Two Airports
Shanghai has two main international airports: Pudong International Airport (PVG) — the primary long-haul hub — and Hongqiao International Airport (SHA), closer to the city and used for many domestic and short-haul regional flights.
From Pudong (PVG) to City Center
1. Maglev Train — Fastest (≈8 min)
The world's fastest commercial train reaches 431 km/h, whisking you from PVG to Longyang Road Station in about 8 minutes for roughly ¥50–55. Then connect to Metro Line 2 for the rest of the journey. Perfect if you're short on time.
2. Metro Line 2 (≈60–75 min)
The most economical option at ¥7–10. Line 2 runs from PVG directly through central stops like People's Square and Nanjing Road. It's easy to navigate with the Shanghai Metro app.
3. Taxi / Didi (≈50–70 min)
A metered taxi to central Shanghai typically costs ¥150–220 (about $20–30). Use the Didi app for ride-hailing with English support and upfront pricing.
4. Private Airport Transfer (≈45–60 min)
The most comfortable, door-to-door option. Your driver meets you at arrivals with a name sign, helps with luggage, and takes you directly to your hotel — stress-free after a long flight.
From Hongqiao (SHA) to City Center
Hongqiao is much closer — Metro Line 2 or 10 reach downtown in 25–40 minutes (¥3–5), or a taxi costs ¥60–110. Visit the beautiful Hongqiao Hub connecting airport, high-speed rail and metro all in one complex.
